Capital Kaluga is an international pedigree on both sides of the page. Her sire, Kentucky van ‘t Ruytershof, is a 2010 BWP stallion by For Pleasure, the double Olympic team gold medallist and a stallion who has topped the world sire rankings, and Kentucky himself has competed to 1.40m with Jos Verlooy. His dam is Diamanthina van ‘t Ruytershof, by Diamant de Semilly out of a Carthago mare, successful at the highest level with Constant van Paesschen and a full sister to the international stallion Emerald van ‘t Ruytershof. Diamanthina has produced three BWP-approved sons in Kentucky, Je t’Adore and Le Blue Diamond, the mark of a genuinely prepotent mare.
Her damline answers that with Holstein foundation blood and a stallion South African breeders know well. Kaluga is out of Capital Haiti (showjumping 1.30m), by Capital Hotline, who jumped 1.40m, with Capital Colby and Consuelo behind. Consuelo has sired multiple champions in this country. He is by Corofino I, a 1.60m jumper licensed across five studbooks, who is in turn by Corrado I, a 1.60m performer and one of the most significant sons of Cor de la Bryère. Consuelo’s own dam, Anna-Tevka, jumped 1.40m and is by Landgraf I, the Ladykiller xx son who stands among the true pillars of Holstein breeding. This leaves three generations of horses who performed, sitting directly behind Kaluga’s dam.
Capital Kaluga is in foal to Capital’s Castello Z, by Chacco-Blue out of a Darco mare with Heartbreaker beneath. Chacco-Blue is the most influential sire in contemporary sporthorse breeding, transmitting temperament, carefulness and top-level scope with rare consistency, while the Darco damline brings bravery and competitive will. Diamant de Semilly and Corrado I on one side, Chacco-Blue’s technique on the other: a mating built for the top of the sport.
